Quick answer: Before replacing an ISB 6.7 VGT actuator, confirm the installed engine/turbo application, preserve the fault and service history, and separate a diagnostic failure from an installation or calibration problem. Cummins' June 2026 bulletin warns that incorrect installation/calibration has caused actuators to be misdiagnosed as faulty. A failed setup test alone is not a replacement decision. [1]

Application: Parts and repair planning using the cited ISB6.7 CM2350 B101/B103/B142 examples. Other B6.7 engines appear in the source lists with their own identities. The 2025 kit bulletin concerns specified 12-volt applications. Neither bulletin establishes a universal kit, electrical test limit or reset process for every 6.7L engine.

What does an actuator-related fault actually establish?

Keep the full fault report with the complaint: low power, a warning, an intermittent concern or a failure during setup after replacement. Record when it happens and whether the original actuator is still installed. A report that says only “needs turbo actuator” leaves the reason for that conclusion unclear.

Ask the technician which current diagnostic was used, which checks passed and what finding identifies the failed component. If the conclusion involves wiring, communication, actuator operation or the turbo mechanism, have the report name that conclusion specifically. This is a request for evidence, not a generic electrical or mechanical test procedure.

Situation Preserve Resolve before ordering
Original low-power complaint Operating condition, complete codes and diagnostic findings. What identifies the component needing repair?
Setup failed after actuator work Exact test name/result, installed parts and steps already completed. Was the matching installation/calibration sequence followed?
Replacement kit looks different Full original and replacement markings and application confirmation. Does the verified service kit apply to this assembly?
Concern returns after repair Before/after reports and the original complaint's verification result. Was the original cause resolved?

Can incorrect setup make a good actuator look faulty?

TSB230020, released June 16, 2026, lists ISB6.7 CM2350 B101/B103/B142 among its affected products. It describes a failed INSITE VGT installation/calibration test and active faults 6432, 2449 or 1898. Listed causes include mounting the actuator during the wrong installation stage and incorrect turbo sector-gear alignment. [1]

The bulletin refers technicians to the corresponding service manual's Procedure 010-134 and requires restarting the installation procedure when install/calibrate steps do not pass. It also gives an escalation path for repeated unsuccessful attempts. Have a qualified provider review the complete matched procedure and record the result. An unplugging interval or code clearing copied out of context is not a complete calibration method.

This bulletin addresses a particular setup complaint. It does not say that all low power comes from installation error or that every actuator with one of those codes is serviceable.

Does a newer actuator kit fit every ISB 6.7?

TSB220165, released April 22, 2025, describes new 12-volt VGT service kits for certain applications. It lists ISB6.7 CM2350 B101/B103/B142 and includes application-specific replacement information. It also emphasizes correct sector-gear setting and the matching Procedure 010-134. [2]

The notice explains that an actuator supplied in a verified kit can have a marking different from the kit's bill of material while remaining compatible within the stated service arrangement. That is a scoped manufacturer statement, not permission to interchange arbitrary actuators. Confirm the actual assembly, supply-voltage application and current service-kit selection for the installed engine.

A photograph or a search result carrying “ISB 6.7” cannot replace that check. Keep the whole identifier, including any suffix, in the private fitment request. Do not remove identifying details to make two listings appear to match.

What should the repair quote include?

Ask whether the diagnosis calls for the actuator, a related circuit repair, the turbo assembly or another component. Have the quote identify what is supplied, what is reused, what installation materials are required and who completes the applicable setup and verification.

Keep the original diagnostic report and the completed installation/calibration result with the repair record. Confirm that the provider will also check the original operating complaint. A completed setup test and an explanation of why the truck lost power answer different questions.

Check order-specific core-return terms before returning an old component. Preserve its markings and the evidence needed to explain the diagnosis. This guide does not establish stock, a core value, warranty approval or a replacement part number.

What information should ATP receive?

Send the installed-engine ESN, full model/control identity, VIN and vehicle application; include the complete turbo and actuator markings plus safely obtained label photos. State known replacements, the diagnosed component and whether installation/calibration is included in the planned repair.

Cummins' parts-information page supports ESN-based catalog lookup and explains how to find engine identification and manuals. Use that record to reconcile the original application with what is installed today. [3]

Request confirmation for the actual assembly

Use ATP's part-fitment request. Ask for confirmed application, included items, availability and setup scope before ordering. For a different complaint, see the ISB 6.7 starting-evidence guide.

Common ISB 6.7 actuator questions

Does a failed calibration test prove the new actuator is defective?

No. The 2026 Cummins bulletin specifically identifies incorrect installation/calibration as a source of misdiagnosis.

Does unplugging the actuator perform a universal reset?

No universal reset is established here. Use the entire current procedure matched to the application.

Can I select a kit from displacement and connector appearance?

Those details do not confirm application. Match the installed engine, complete assembly identity and current service-kit information.

Does a different marking inside a service kit prove it is wrong?

The 2025 bulletin describes compatible differences within specified kits. Verify that exact service arrangement before accepting or rejecting the part.

Do these bulletins authorize warranty or campaign repairs?

They do not. Their notices leave existing coverage and repair practices unchanged; check the particular claim with the responsible provider.
