Freight/Oversize Shipments
Freight/LTL shipping quotes are calculated based on delivery to commercial addresses.Β This means that the property must be commercially zoned and have official business hours of operations.Β If you do not have a business address and you have already purchased a Freight or Oversized item then we will contact you with an updated shipping charge that must be paid for delivery.Β If you have not purchased yet and would like a shipping quote to a non commercial address, we are more than happy to help!
When a Freight shipment arrives doΒ notΒ sign the delivery receipt before you have fully inspected the package and have marked down the exceptions and damages on the receipt if they apply.Β If a Freight shipment does arrive and is damaged, we can not help you if you did not sign for it as damaged and clearly note it on the delivery receipt.
Upon delivery of the shipment, if you do not have the ability and/or equipment to unload your product the freight carrier may ask if you would like to have them unload the product with a lift gate or other methods. Any additional services requested such as this may incur an additional fee charged to the customer by the freight carrier and Advanced Truck PartsΒ is not responsible for such charges. The decision to accept these charges lies solely with the delivery recipient.
Free Shipping Promotions
All Free Shipping items will ship either USPS or UPS and will have a 3 to 7 day transit time.Β For any products or promo codes that offer Free Shipping on orders or individual parts, the Free Shipping only applies to the contiguous 48 United States. Β For all other ship to locations, an accurate shipping quote must be calculated and paid. Β Free Shipping also does not apply to oversized or freight items unless specifically stated and a commercial zone address is required.
Canada Shipments
Applicable for Ground Shipments Only - Canada Customs requires Canadian recipients to pay applicable duties and taxes on each shipment entering Canada.Β These charges may include POST, GST, HST, duties and other taxes of goods.Β A brokerage fee may also be charged to process shipments and present the requisite customs paperwork to Canada Customs on the importer's behalf. In some cases, orders may be sent in multiple shipments and can incur additional brokerage charges imposed by Canada Customs. The customer is responsible for brokerage fees, POST, GST, HST, duties and other taxes of goods that are imposed by shipping companies or Canada Customs. In the event the customer refuses to pay those fees, Advanced Truck PartsΒ may be forced to abandon the product at the Canadian border. In that case, the customer will receive no refund back because the product will be lost. *Note - No additional taxes or duties are due for Freight/LTL shipments

Detroit Diesel heavy-duty engines (such as the Series 60, DD13, DD15, etc.) come equipped with air compressors to generate the compressed air needed by the vehicleβs brake system and other air-operated devices.
In most Detroit Diesel applications, the air compressor is gear-driven and bolted directly to the engine β it draws air from the engineβs intake (either before or after the turbo, depending on the model) and pressurizes it for the air tanks.
In a truck with a Detroit Diesel engine, a bad compressor will manifest in ways similar to other systems, with a few Detroit-specific nuances.
The primary symptom is low air pressure: you might see that the vehicleβs air pressure gauges stay below the normal operating range (usually twin gauges for primary and secondary air tanks should read ~120 psi when full).

In most Detroit Diesel applications, the air compressor is gear-driven and bolted directly to the engine β it draws air from the engineβs intake (either before or after the turbo, depending on the model) and pressurizes it for the air tanks. For example, the Series 60 engines often used a Bendix BA-921 compressor, which is a crankcase-mounted unit taking in naturally aspirated air (unboosted) from the intake and pumping it into the brake system. The compressorβs role is to provide and maintain air under pressure to operate the air brakes and any auxiliary air systems. Detroit Diesel designs integrate the compressor with the engineβs cooling and oil systems (the Series 60 compressor even had an internal oil feed, using engine oil passages directly without an external oil line). Once the engine is running, the compressor runs continuously, loading (pumping air) or unloading as governed, to keep the system at the required 120 psi or so. Essentially, it ensures that a Detroit-powered truck has a constant supply of air for safe braking β truly the βheartβ of the air brake system as much as the engine is the heart of the truck.

The primary symptom is low air pressure: you might see that the vehicleβs air pressure gauges stay below the normal operating range (usually twin gauges for primary and secondary air tanks should read ~120 psi when full).
If the compressor is worn or its discharge valves leaking, the pressure might rise only to a certain point (say 90 psi) and not higher.
The low-air warning buzzer and dash light will likely activate if pressure falls under ~60 psi, alerting the driver.
Another sign is extended pump-up time β DOT standards generally expect heavy trucks to build air from 85 to 100 psi within 2 minutes; a failing compressor may take much longer, indicating insufficient output.
Frequent air dryer purges (more than every minute or so at highway cruise) suggest the compressor is cycling too rapidly, possibly because it cannot reach the governor cut-out pressure due to internal leaks or because the unloader isnβt staying closed.
Replacing or servicing an air compressor on a Detroit Diesel engine should be done with care to ensure engine integrity. Mounting & Oil Supply: Detroit Series 60 and newer engines commonly use a direct-mount compressor with an internal oil feed β meaning thereβs no external oil hose; oil flows through drilled passages from the engine block. When installing the compressor, there will be O-rings or a gasket that seals those oil passages at the mounting interface. Always use new O-rings/gasket as specified, and make sure the surfaces are clean; an internal oil leak here could starve the compressor or leak engine oil. Bolt the compressor to the engine block following the torque pattern; uneven tightening can cause leaks or even a slight misalignment of the drive gear. Gear Drive and Timing: The compressorβs drive gear is driven by the engine timing gears. On Detroit engines, there is usually no timing adjustment for the compressor gear (itβs an idler or accessory gear), but ensure the new compressorβs gear properly meshes β some compressors require you to transfer a drive gear from the old unit. Always inspect the drive gear teeth and backlash. Itβs wise to bar the engine over by hand a few rotations after installing, to ensure smooth rotation with no binding. Inlet and Discharge Connections: Reconnect the air inlet β Detroit compressors often breathe from the engineβs intake or a filter; if thereβs a discrete intake line make sure itβs clamped tight and leak-free, as unfiltered air or leaks here can introduce debris or reduce performance. Reattach the discharge line with a new high-temperature gasket or sealing ring as needed; make sure the discharge line is not clogged (blow it out) and is well-supported, because a heavy line vibrating can crack the compressor head over time. Itβs recommended to also check or replace the inlet check valve if one is used in the system, as Detroit specifically suggests this to prevent issues. Hook up the coolant lines to the compressor. Detroit engines typically have coolant flowing through the compressor continuously. After installation, top off coolant and purge air by running the engine with the radiator cap off until the thermostat opens (or use the cooling system fill procedure for the engine) so that the compressor water jacket is free of air pockets. Most Detroit setups use a standard D-2 governor (often mounted on the air dryer or firewall) controlling the unloader via a small diameter line. Verify this line is reconnected to the compressor (or to the unloader port if remote) and not kinked. Because the compressor is continuous-drive, the unloader mechanism must function correctly to stop compression at cut-out; consider testing the unloader pistons in the compressor head while itβs off (they should move freely). The Bendix/Detroit compressor heads include a safety valve (typically pops at ~250 psi) to protect against overpressure. Itβs a good idea to install a new safety valve with a new compressor, or ensure the old one is clean and not corroded. Once everything is mounted, start the engine and observe the air pressure rise. Listen closely around the compressor for any leaks (hissing) or unusual sounds. Check that at cut-out, the governor triggers and the compressor unloads β you should hear the characteristic dryer purge. Also verify thereβs no oil or coolant leaking from the mounting joint or hoses. After the first road test or a few hours of operation, itβs prudent to re-check bolt torques and look for any developing leaks. Properly installed, the new compressor on a Detroit Diesel will keep the air system in top shape, and coupling it with a fresh air dryer cartridge will help ensure any residual oil or moisture is well managed.
Important: Always verify fitment by part number before installation and follow OEM torque specifications.
