Freight/Oversize Shipments
Freight/LTL shipping quotes are calculated based on delivery to commercial addresses.Β  This means that the property must be commercially zoned and have official business hours of operations.Β  If you do not have a business address and you have already purchased a Freight or Oversized item then we will contact you with an updated shipping charge that must be paid for delivery.Β  If you have not purchased yet and would like a shipping quote to a non commercial address, we are more than happy to help!

When a Freight shipment arrives doΒ notΒ sign the delivery receipt before you have fully inspected the package and have marked down the exceptions and damages on the receipt if they apply.Β  If a Freight shipment does arrive and is damaged, we can not help you if you did not sign for it as damaged and clearly note it on the delivery receipt.

Upon delivery of the shipment, if you do not have the ability and/or equipment to unload your product the freight carrier may ask if you would like to have them unload the product with a lift gate or other methods. Any additional services requested such as this may incur an additional fee charged to the customer by the freight carrier and Advanced Truck PartsΒ is not responsible for such charges. The decision to accept these charges lies solely with the delivery recipient.

Β Free Shipping also does not apply to oversized or freight items unless specifically stated and a commercial zone address is required.

Canada Shipments
Applicable for Ground Shipments Only - Canada Customs requires Canadian recipients to pay applicable duties and taxes on each shipment entering Canada.Β  These charges may include POST, GST, HST, duties and other taxes of goods.Β  A brokerage fee may also be charged to process shipments and present the requisite customs paperwork to Canada Customs on the importer's behalf. In some cases, orders may be sent in multiple shipments and can incur additional brokerage charges imposed by Canada Customs. The customer is responsible for brokerage fees, POST, GST, HST, duties and other taxes of goods that are imposed by shipping companies or Canada Customs. In the event the customer refuses to pay those fees, Advanced Truck PartsΒ may be forced to abandon the product at the Canadian border. In that case, the customer will receive no refund back because the product will be lost. *Note - No additional taxes or duties are due for Freight/LTL shipments

MACK AIR COMPRESSORS

Key Points

Mack Trucks (especially models like the Mack Granite, Pinnacle, or older RD/U models) use air compressors as a crucial part of their braking system.

In Mack’s engines (such as the E7, E-Tech, MP7/MP8 which are shared designs with Volvo), the air compressor provides compressed air for the air brakes, including service brakes and spring brakes, as well as for air suspension, transmission controls, and other pneumatic auxiliaries.

When a Mack truck’s compressor has problems, you’ll notice the air system behaving abnormally.

Common signs include slow air build – after starting the truck, the air pressure might take an unusually long time to rise, or might not reach the normal cut-out at all (leading to the dryer not purging as it should).

Purpose

Mack Trucks (especially models like the Mack Granite, Pinnacle, or older RD/U models) use air compressors as a crucial part of their braking system. In Mack’s engines (such as the E7, E-Tech, MP7/MP8 which are shared designs with Volvo), the air compressor provides compressed air for the air brakes, including service brakes and spring brakes, as well as for air suspension, transmission controls, and other pneumatic auxiliaries. Mack historically has utilized WABCO β€œSystem Saver” compressors on many engines – for instance, the Mack E-TECH engines came with the WABCO System Saver 318 compressor, a twin-cylinder unit that could deliver around 18.7 CFM at governed speed. This compressor was often a through-drive design, meaning it not only pumps air but also has a secondary drive to run the power steering pump on the back of it. The compressor is flange-mounted to the engine and shares engine coolant and oil supplies. Its fundamental purpose is to maintain air pressure in the brake system (typically 120–125 psi cut-out) so that the truck’s braking and suspension systems function reliably. Mack’s rugged vocational trucks may use more air (for example, air-operated tailgates or pavers), so the compressor is truly sized and built for continuous heavy-duty operation. In short, the compressor in a Mack is what keeps the truck’s lifeline of air flowing, allowing these trucks to stop safely and operate pneumatic equipment.

Common Failure Signs

When a Mack truck’s compressor has problems, you’ll notice the air system behaving abnormally.

Common signs include slow air build – after starting the truck, the air pressure might take an unusually long time to rise, or might not reach the normal cut-out at all (leading to the dryer not purging as it should).

The truck’s warning buzzer might stay on, or come on during heavy brake use.

Mack trucks, like others, have an expected build time; if it greatly exceeds that, the compressor could be weak or leaking.

Another typical sign is frequent cycling: if you hear the air dryer purging very often (say every 30 seconds or less at idle), the compressor could be continuously pumping due to an inability to maintain pressure or a leaking unloader.

This often happens if the unloader valve or governor on a Mack fails – the compressor never truly goes into idle mode and the air dryer keeps spitting air.

Installation Notes

Installing a compressor on a Mack engine, especially an older E-7 or E-Tech, requires careful attention to both the air compressor and any piggyback components. Through-Drive Configuration: Many Mack compressors have a through-drive (e.g., the WABCO System Saver 318 on E-Tech engines) which mounts the power steering pump on the back of the compressor. When replacing the compressor, you’ll need to remove that pump first and transfer it to the new compressor. Always install a new drive key/coupling or at least inspect it – this coupling links the compressor crankshaft to the pump. A worn coupling can strip out under load. Align the pump carefully onto the new compressor’s drive, ensuring the tangs or splines engage fully. Use new gaskets/O-rings between the pump and compressor to prevent oil leaks. Mounting to Engine: Mack’s compressor mounts to a timing gear plate on the engine. Clean the old gasket material off the mounting surface thoroughly. There may be locating pins – make sure the new compressor sits on those pins correctly. If the unit is heavy, use a hoist or get assistance to avoid misalignment when bolting it up. Once in place, hand-tighten all bolts then torque to spec incrementally. Gear Mesh and Timing: On some Mack engines (particularly those similar to Volvo), the compressor gear is timed to reduce noise (every second revolution alignment). Check the service manual: you may need to line up timing marks on the compressor gear with marks on the engine gear during installation. If required, rotate the engine to the specified position before inserting the compressor. Failing to time it (if the design calls for it) could lead to vibrations. Oil and Coolant Hookups: Reattach the oil supply line (if external) or ensure internal oil passages align (some designs use an external line from the block, others feed internally). For external lines, use new crush washers or sealing o-rings at the banjo fittings and don’t overtighten (stripping a port is disastrous). Connect the coolant lines and double-check which is inlet vs outlet if marked. It’s helpful to fill the compressor head jacket with coolant before attaching the last hose to minimize air gap. Unloader and Governor: Mack compressors typically have the unloader mechanism in the head and the governor remotely mounted (often on the firewall or dryer). Replace the small control line’s fitting tape or sealant if it was removed, and make sure it’s not pinched on reinstallation. A new compressor sometimes comes with new unloader springs and valves preset; if not, consider servicing the unloader assembly (new o-rings, springs) while it’s accessible. Safety Valve: Verify the safety valve on the compressor head is present and not swapped accidentally. Mack’s spec for the safety valve opening is usually around 250 psi – use the correct one. After Installation: Refill engine coolant and oil as needed (some oil may have spilled or a filter was removed to access the compressor). Start the engine and let it idle – observe the power steering pump (if applicable) for any leaks or noises; it should turn smoothly (no chatter or whine – if there is, bleed the power steering system in case air entered when removed). Watch the air pressure build and listen for the governor cut-out. It’s prudent to test at both idle and high idle. On a Mack, also check for any engine oil leaks around the compressor base – an internal leak at the gasket can sometimes show up as oil seepage. After a test drive, recheck the bolt torques because the combination of cast iron (block), aluminum (compressor head on some models), and operational heat cycles can loosen things slightly. With the compressor properly installed, your Mack should reliably pump out air for all the hard work it needs to do, from braking to lifting axles. Don’t forget to replace the air dryer cartridge to give the new compressor a clean, dry system to work with.

Important: Always verify fitment by part number before installation and follow OEM torque specifications.

As a fire department, we reached out to Advancedtruckparts.com for some parts. Once we realized their company was in our area, we visited them in person. All of the employees that we came across were very polite and extremely helpful....

ALEX

Jimmy in parts was exceptional. He went above and beyond to ensure I had the correct part when we needed a new Battery Box lid after ours was stolen! He found the best price possible for the part and made the transaction over the phone quick and easy. Their prices for the same products were lower than the ridiculous prices at dealers services places.
