Freight/Oversize Shipments
Freight/LTL shipping quotes are calculated based on delivery to commercial addresses.Β This means that the property must be commercially zoned and have official business hours of operations.Β If you do not have a business address and you have already purchased a Freight or Oversized item then we will contact you with an updated shipping charge that must be paid for delivery.Β If you have not purchased yet and would like a shipping quote to a non commercial address, we are more than happy to help!
When a Freight shipment arrives doΒ notΒ sign the delivery receipt before you have fully inspected the package and have marked down the exceptions and damages on the receipt if they apply.Β If a Freight shipment does arrive and is damaged, we can not help you if you did not sign for it as damaged and clearly note it on the delivery receipt.
Upon delivery of the shipment, if you do not have the ability and/or equipment to unload your product the freight carrier may ask if you would like to have them unload the product with a lift gate or other methods. Any additional services requested such as this may incur an additional fee charged to the customer by the freight carrier and Advanced Truck PartsΒ is not responsible for such charges. The decision to accept these charges lies solely with the delivery recipient.

Volvo heavy truck engines (such as the 13-liter Volvo D13) rely on turbocharging to deliver high torque and meet emission requirements in their long-haul and vocational trucks.
Volvo is known for using a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) in its engines, which allows the turboβs exhaust side to adjust continuously for optimal boost.
A failing turbo on a Volvo truck engine (VNL series, etc.) will make itself known through both driving performance and potential dashboard warnings.
Common symptoms include decreased engine power and erratic performance β the truck may struggle to boost, especially at higher loads, making it hard to maintain speed on inclines or during acceleration.
This serves a dual purpose: providing strong, responsive power across the RPM range and controlling exhaust pressure for the EGR system. At low engine speeds, the VGT closes down to build up boost quickly (eliminating turbo lag and improving low-end torque for heavy loads), whereas at high speeds it opens up to prevent backpressure and maintain efficient airflow. This flexibility means the Volvo engine can have excellent drivability (good acceleration and grade-climbing power) while also reducing emissions. In fact, by varying exhaust pressure, the VGT ensures proper EGR flow, which is critical for reducing NOx. In addition to the primary turbo, Volvo has introduced turbo-compounding on some models (e.g., the D13 with Turbo Compound, sometimes branded as βD13 TCβ or in Mack engines as MP8HE). In these, a second turbine downstream of the main turbo captures extra energy from the exhaust and converts it to mechanical power. The result is improved efficiency β the engine gains additional horsepower without extra fuel. This technology allows, for example, holding top gear on hills with lower RPM because of the extra torque from the turbocompound unit. Overall, the turbocharger (or turbo system) in a Volvo engine is there to maximize performance per liter β giving the truck strong acceleration and pulling power when needed β and to enable advanced emission controls, all while keeping fuel consumption in check. Itβs a cornerstone of Volvoβs engine design, which emphasizes both power and fuel efficiency for long-haul trucking.
Drivers often notice excessive black smoke from the exhaust when the turbo isnβt supplying enough air, as the fuel isnβt being completely burned.
In Volvoβs emissions system, another sign of turbo trouble is an abnormally fast rise in DPF soot levels.
A failing VGT that doesnβt provide proper boost or has sticking vanes can lead to more soot and higher exhaust temperatures, which in turn overloads the diesel particulate filter (DPF).
Additionally, if the VGT vanes get stuck (for instance, in a closed position), the engine can experience high exhaust backpressure, causing increased exhaust gas temperature (EGT) readings and even making the engine feel like itβs choking.
Replacing the turbocharger on a Volvo D11/D13 engine must be done with care, given the integration of the turbo with the engineβs electronics and emission system. Start by removing the old turbo and inspecting all connecting pipes β Volvo uses an integrated front pipe and charge piping; any soot traces outside can indicate an upstream exhaust leak that should be fixed concurrently. When installing the new turbo, use the correct Volvo gasket kit for the turbo mounting and oil lines to ensure proper sealing. Clean the exhaust manifold surface and oil feed port thoroughly. One critical step is handling the VGT actuator: on Volvoβs VGT, the actuator is an electronically controlled motor attached to the turbo. If the new turbo comes with a pre-installed actuator, care must be taken not to drop or mishandle it. If you had to transfer the old actuator to the new turbo, this must be done following Volvoβs procedure, which usually involves setting the actuator to a βneutralβ position with a scan tool before removal. After the turbo is bolted on and oil/coolant lines (if any) reconnected, re-fill the oil feed in the turbo center bearing and verify the drain line is clear. Now, one of the most important steps: calibrating the VGT actuator. Volvo (and Mack) engines require that the electronic actuator be calibrated whenever a turbo or actuator is replaced or even removed and reinstalled. Using the Volvo diagnostic system (Tech Tool), a calibration routine will zero the actuator and make it sweep the vanes through their range. This ensures the ECM knows the exact vane positions and prevents problems like overboost or erratic operation. Skipping this step can lead to improper boost control or an immediate fault code. Once calibrated, start the engine and let it idle. Check carefully for oil leaks at the feed and return β high oil pressure in Volvo engines can quickly show a leak if something isnβt sealed. Also check for exhaust leaks around the turbo mounting (a hissing sound or soot puffing). After a few minutes, verify that the turbo actuator is responding (you may hear it move vanes at idle or see changes in commanded position via the scan tool). The next step is to run the engine under load and confirm it reaches target boost pressure and that no new fault codes appear. Volvo also advises, after a turbo installation, to perform a regeneration if the DPF was soot-loaded during the period of turbo failure. This is because a failing turbo often causes extra soot; cleaning out the DPF and checking the EGR system for any fouling (and cleaning as necessary) will help ensure the new turbo isnβt immediately put under strain. In summary, the keys to Volvo turbo installation are: cleanliness, correct gaskets/torques, actuator calibration, and verifying the engineβs tuning (no leaks, no codes, proper regen) afterwards for a complete fix. Following the official procedures will result in the turbocharger and engine performing optimally.
