Freight/Oversize Shipments
Freight/LTL shipping quotes are calculated based on delivery to commercial addresses.  This means that the property must be commercially zoned and have official business hours of operations.  If you do not have a business address and you have already purchased a Freight or Oversized item then we will contact you with an updated shipping charge that must be paid for delivery.  If you have not purchased yet and would like a shipping quote to a non commercial address, we are more than happy to help!

When a Freight shipment arrives do not sign the delivery receipt before you have fully inspected the package and have marked down the exceptions and damages on the receipt if they apply.  If a Freight shipment does arrive and is damaged, we can not help you if you did not sign for it as damaged and clearly note it on the delivery receipt.

Upon delivery of the shipment, if you do not have the ability and/or equipment to unload your product the freight carrier may ask if you would like to have them unload the product with a lift gate or other methods. Any additional services requested such as this may incur an additional fee charged to the customer by the freight carrier and Advanced Truck Parts is not responsible for such charges. The decision to accept these charges lies solely with the delivery recipient.

Free Shipping Promotions
All Free Shipping items will ship either USPS or UPS and will have a 3 to 7 day transit time.  For any products or promo codes that offer Free Shipping on orders or individual parts, the Free Shipping only applies to the contiguous 48 United States.  For all other ship to locations, an accurate shipping quote must be calculated and paid.  Free Shipping also does not apply to oversized or freight items unless specifically stated and a commercial zone address is required.

Canada Shipments
Applicable for Ground Shipments Only - Canada Customs requires Canadian recipients to pay applicable duties and taxes on each shipment entering Canada.  These charges may include POST, GST, HST, duties and other taxes of goods.  A brokerage fee may also be charged to process shipments and present the requisite customs paperwork to Canada Customs on the importer's behalf. In some cases, orders may be sent in multiple shipments and can incur additional brokerage charges imposed by Canada Customs. The customer is responsible for brokerage fees, POST, GST, HST, duties and other taxes of goods that are imposed by shipping companies or Canada Customs. In the event the customer refuses to pay those fees, Advanced Truck Parts may be forced to abandon the product at the Canadian border. In that case, the customer will receive no refund back because the product will be lost. *Note - No additional taxes or duties are due for Freight/LTL shipments

International Shipments
At Advanced Truck Parts we are proud to provide international shipping!  We have a very experienced team of people here to help our international customers receive their parts quickly and at very affordable rates!

If you are trying to place an order and our website says that we can not ship to your location please contact us at john@advancedtruckparts.com so that we can give you a custom shipping quote.  Once you contact us at john@advancedtruckparts.com we will respond quickly with an accurate shipping quote as long as you provide a full physical address with postal code. In some cases our website may quote and charge you the wrong amount for shipping and if this occurs you will be contacted for additional payment.  While we do our best to have our website calculate accurate shipping quotes, in dealing with international shipments this is difficult and sometimes our team has to calculate the correct shipping rate manually.

International customers are responsible for any duties, taxes, custom charges or currency exchange fees that their shipment may incur during transit.  In the case of a shipment being refused, all transit charges will be deducted from the customer’s refund.

Damaged Shipments
In the event your product is damaged in transit please contact us at 1-877-795-0656 immediately.  All damages must be reported within 24-48 hours of receiving your package. If a shipment arrives at your doorstep and is clearly damaged make sure to take pictures as these will help expedite the return process. All warranty claims and damaged items claims need to be handled through Advanced Truck Parts. Do not contact the manufacturer of the product directly as they will not be able to assist you in receiving a new item. Please do not attempt to install the part as this will void any replacement options or claims.

Refused Shipments
You reserve the right to refuse a shipment should you change your mind and decide to return the product. Please contact us ahead of time if you plan to do this so we can set up the appropriate return information in the system. If a shipment is refused upon delivery, then Advanced Truck Parts will deduct the cost of the return shipping from your refund in addition to the initial shipping charge. If the item is damaged upon arrival or defective then we will take full responsibility for the cost of shipping.

Thus, you can expect your order to be delivered between 4 to 14 days from when we receive payment for your item.

We cannot ship to PO Boxes!!! Before purchasing our item(s), please make sure that either (1) your Paypal account has a confirmed physical address, or (2) you personally supply us with a sufficient physical address to ship to.

DETROIT DIESEL WATER PUMPS

Key Points

Detroit Diesel engines (found in Freightliner/Western Star trucks and other applications) use water pumps to manage engine heat, preserving performance and preventing damage.

In the classic Series 60 engines, the water pump is a gear-driven centrifugal type mounted on the front of the engine (usually on the passenger side of the timing case).

If a water pump starts to fail on a Detroit engine, you might observe several signs.

Coolant leakage is the most immediate symptom – on Series 60 engines, coolant seeping from the weep hole or gasket area of the pump will often drip down the front right side of the engine block.

Purpose

Detroit Diesel engines (found in Freightliner/Western Star trucks and other applications) use water pumps to manage engine heat, preserving performance and preventing damage. In the classic Series 60 engines, the water pump is a gear-driven centrifugal type mounted on the front of the engine (usually on the passenger side of the timing case). It circulates coolant through the engine block, cylinder head, EGR cooler (on later models), and radiator. The newer Detroit DD-series engines (DD13/DD15/DD16) introduced an interesting innovation: a belt-driven, variable-speed water pump with an electromagnetic clutch. This design allows the engine’s computer to disengage or modulate the water pump drive under certain conditions (like cold start or cruising when full coolant flow isn’t needed) to reduce parasitic drag and improve fuel economy. Essentially, when cooling demand is low, the pump freewheels, and when needed, the clutch engages to drive the pump – ensuring the engine quickly reaches and maintains the optimal coolant temperature for efficient operation. Regardless of model, the core purpose of the water pump remains to push coolant through the engine’s cooling circuit. By doing so, it keeps cylinder temperatures stable, turbocharger and EGR components cool enough, and ensures the aftertreatment (which often has coolant lines as well) operates within its temperature window. A properly functioning Detroit water pump contributes to better fuel efficiency (by preventing overcooling or overheating) and longevity of engine components.

Common Failure Signs

If a water pump starts to fail on a Detroit engine, you might observe several signs.

Coolant leakage is the most immediate symptom – on Series 60 engines, coolant seeping from the weep hole or gasket area of the pump will often drip down the front right side of the engine block.

Any puddle of coolant under the engine or a streak of coolant residue on the front cover is a red flag.

Overheating is another key sign: the engine running hotter than usual, especially under load or at idle.

In a modern DD15, for example, if the pump’s clutch fails disengaged, the coolant flow might be insufficient and you’d see the engine temperature climb rapidly (potentially leading to a check engine light and derate for high coolant temp).

Conversely, if the clutch fails locked, the pump is always spinning – while this generally prevents overheating, it could cause the engine to run cooler than optimal and might throw an efficiency code, though that’s less common to notice than overheating.

Installation Notes

Installing a water pump on a Detroit engine depends on the model, but there are common principles. For a Series 60 or older engine with a gear-driven pump, drain the coolant and remove the pump from the side of the front cover (usually a few bolts and it pulls out, engaging the gear train). Clean the gasket surface thoroughly. Some Series 60 pumps came as cartridge inserts where you unbolt a cover and swap the pump cartridge; others are whole units. Install a new gasket (and O-rings if any on crossover pipes) and bolt the new pump in, torquing evenly (around 30 ft·lb, check spec). It’s wise to also inspect the bypass tube and seals (if the pump connects to a thermostat housing via a short tube) – replace those O-rings to prevent leaks. For the DD13/DD15/DD16 with the belt-driven clutch pump, the process is a bit different. First, de-tension and remove the poly-V belt that drives the water pump (this belt also often runs the alternator and A/C). You may need to remove the fan and fan hub for better access, as the water pump is usually behind the fan assembly. Disconnect the electrical connector to the water pump’s electromagnetic clutch. Unbolt the water pump assembly from the timing cover – on a DD15 it’s typically secured by several bolts and maybe a support bracket. Clean the mating surface and ensure the new pump comes with the correct gasket or O-ring (Detroit pumps often use a large O-ring seal). When installing the new pump, be careful to route the electrical pigtail for the clutch without pinching it, and plug it in securely (a failed connection will disable the clutch). Bolt in the pump, torquing the bolts to spec (e.g. ~50 Nm for DD engines, but refer to manual). Reinstall the drive belt or, better yet, put a new belt if the old one is worn – proper tension it using the tensioner or manual spec if a tensioner is not automatic. Refill the coolant (Detroit recommends a nitrited heavy-duty coolant or OAT equivalent). On these engines, use the vacuum fill tool if available to avoid air pockets, or fill slowly up to the top and allow air to bleed (there might be a vent plug on top of the thermostat housing). Once filled, start the engine and check for leaks. Verify that the water pump clutch engages – on a cool engine, you might not see it engage immediately (it often waits until a certain temperature). You can sometimes command the pump clutch via diagnostic software to test it. Make sure the engine reaches normal operating temp and stays stable. Also observe the fan operation – if the engine stays cool, the fan should cycle normally and not run excessively (if pump wasn’t working, you’d overheat and the fan would stay on trying to compensate). Lastly, double-check coolant level after a full warm-up and cool-down cycle. By carefully installing the pump and verifying the clutch function (if equipped), you’ll ensure the Detroit engine’s cooling system is robust and functioning as intended.

Important: Always verify fitment by part number before installation and follow OEM torque specifications.

As a fire department, we reached out to Advancedtruckparts.com for some parts. Once we realized their company was in our area, we visited them in person. All of the employees that we came across were very polite and extremely helpful....

ALEX

Jimmy in parts was exceptional. He went above and beyond to ensure I had the correct part when we needed a new Battery Box lid after ours was stolen! He found the best price possible for the part and made the transaction over the phone quick and easy. Their prices for the same products were lower than the ridiculous prices at dealers services places.

This is Edward Byrnes with Impressed Mobile Services LLC, I just ordered a brake master cylinder hydro booster combo for my 97 step van, Bob was very helpful and the price very good. Thank you again for the help. PS the song I heard while waiting on hold ( which was not long ) is epic! That is the best “on hold” message I have ever heard.
